Laser Tattoo Removal
Advanced Technology. Experienced Hands. A Clearer Way Forward.
Tattoos can hold memories, mark a particular chapter or simply reflect who we were at a different point in our lives. But when a tattoo no longer feels right, you deserve honest advice and a safe, carefully managed route forward.
Using a medical-grade AW3 Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser, I provide professional tattoo removal and lightening treatments tailored to the individual tattoo, your skin and your desired outcome.
With ten years’ experience in laser tattoo removal, every treatment is delivered with careful assessment, realistic expectations and a strong focus on protecting the surrounding skin.
Removal Or Lightening,
The Choice Is Yours
Not every tattoo needs to disappear completely.
Some clients are looking for full removal, while others simply need an existing tattoo lightened sufficiently for a tattoo artist to create a successful cover-up.
Your treatment plan may be designed to:
Gradually remove an unwanted tattoo
Lighten a tattoo before a cover-up
Target areas of particularly dense pigment
Reduce the visibility of an older or faded tattoo
Correct small remaining areas following previous removal
The most appropriate approach will depend on the colours, depth and density of the pigment, as well as the age, location and quality of the original tattoo.
How Laser Tattoo
Removal Works
The Science Behind Tattoo Removal Treatments
Tattoo pigment sits within the deeper layers of the skin, where the particles are too large for the body’s immune system to remove effectively on its own.
The Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser delivers extremely short pulses of targeted light energy into the tattoo pigment, breaking the particles into much smaller fragments. Over the weeks following treatment, cells within the immune system gradually collect and clear some of these fragments through the body’s natural processes, allowing the tattoo to fade progressively.
Laser treatment does not simply “erase” the tattoo during the appointment. Removal is a gradual process that relies on both the laser and your immune system, usually over a carefully planned course of treatments.
Medical - Grade AW3
Technology
How it Works.
I use a professional AW3 Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser, designed to deliver controlled, targeted energy into tattoo pigment while minimising unnecessary exposure to the surrounding skin.
Different wavelengths allow different pigment colours and depths to be targeted. However, not every tattoo colour responds in the same way, and some pigments can be significantly more challenging than others.
This is why a thorough consultation and patch test are essential before beginning treatment.
Technology Matters. Experience Matters More.
The laser is only one part of a successful treatment.
Understanding how different pigments respond, selecting appropriate treatment settings, recognising skin reactions and knowing when to adjust or delay treatment all require experience and professional judgement.
Having carried out laser tattoo removal treatments for ten years, I take a measured, progressive approach rather than attempting to rush the process.
My priority is always to achieve the best possible fading while maintaining the health and integrity of your skin.
What Can Influence Your
Results?
Every tattoo is different
It is not possible to predict an exact number of treatments from a photograph alone.
Factors that can influence the removal process include:

Black and red pigments often respond particularly well to treatment, while some brighter colours, pale pigments and mixed inks can be more resistant.
Complete removal cannot be guaranteed. Your likely outcome, potential limitations and realistic expectations will be discussed openly during your consultation.

Your Consultation
Every removal plan begins with a professional assessment.
During your consultation, we will discuss:
The history of your tattoo
Whether it is an original tattoo or a cover-up
Any previous laser treatments
Your medical history and suitability for treatment
Whether you want full removal or lightening
The colours and approximate density of the pigment
The likely treatment process
Possible risks and expected skin responses
Treatment intervals and aftercare
A patch test will be carried out where appropriate before your first full treatment.
You will have the opportunity to ask questions and make an informed decision without pressure.
What to Expect During
Treatment
The treatment area will be prepared and appropriate eye protection will be provided.
During treatment, the laser is passed carefully over the tattoo. You may see an immediate temporary whitening or “frosting” of the area. This is a normal short-term response and is not the final result of the treatment.
Most clients describe the sensation as quick, sharp flicks against the skin. The level of discomfort varies depending on the size, location and density of the tattoo.
Appointments are usually relatively short, although larger or more complex tattoos may require more time.
Healing and Treatment Intervals
Following treatment, the area may feel warm or tender and can appear red or slightly swollen. Parametres used are to maximise results and minimise the possibility of temporary blistering, pinpoint bleeding, scabbing or changes in pigmentation, these are to be avoided where possible and are not an 'expected' reaction to treatment.
Clear aftercare instructions will be provided to help you protect the area and support healthy healing.
Laser tattoo removal treatments must be spaced sufficiently far apart to allow the skin to recover and the body time to process the fragmented pigment. I will not re-treat an area for at least 8 weeks. Treatments spaced closer apart do not speed up removal and greatly increase the risks of skin damage, unwanted reactions and scarring.
Your treatment intervals will therefore be based on how your skin heals and responds and may be spaced further apart.
RealTreatments, Real Progress
Explore My Laser Tattoo Removal Results
With ten years’ experience, I have treated tattoos of many different sizes, styles, colours and levels of saturation.
The gallery below shows examples of genuine client progress at different stages of the removal process.
Some images demonstrate complete treatment courses, while others show the progressive fading achieved after a specific number of sessions. This helps provide a more realistic picture of how laser tattoo removal develops over time.
Results vary between individuals, and images should not be viewed as a guarantee of your own outcome.

Tattoo Lightening for a Cover-Up
A successful cover-up does not always require the original tattoo to be removed completely.
Strategically lightening dark, dense or heavily outlined areas can give your tattoo artist greater flexibility and create more options for the new design.
Where possible, it is helpful to discuss your cover-up plans with your tattoo artist so that we can work towards an appropriate level of fading.
A targeted lightening plan may reduce the number of laser sessions required compared with pursuing complete removal.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many sessions will I need?
There is no universal number of treatments. Some tattoos respond relatively quickly, while others require a longer course. The pigment colour, density, depth, location and number of ink layers can all affect the process.
An estimate may be discussed following assessment, but it should be viewed as guidance rather than a guarantee.
Can you completely remove my tattoo?
In many cases, significant fading or removal can be achieved. However, complete clearance cannot be guaranteed. Some pigment colours and ink formulations respond less predictably than others, and a faint residual image or skin change may remain.
Can you lighten a tattoo for a cover-up?
Yes. Full removal is not always necessary before a cover-up. Your treatment plan can focus on reducing the darkest or most restrictive areas of the original design.
Does laser tattoo removal hurt?
The sensation is often described as a series of quick, sharp flicks or the snap of an elastic band. Treatment is usually brief, but sensitivity varies between clients and treatment areas.
Will it leave a scar?
The aim is to target the pigment while protecting the surrounding skin. However, all laser procedures carry risks, including blistering, changes in pigmentation, textural changes and scarring.
It is also possible that pre-existing scar tissue from the original tattoo may become more visible as the pigment fades.
Following aftercare guidance and allowing adequate healing time between treatments are extremely important.
Can all tattoo colours be treated?
Different colours absorb different wavelengths of light and do not all respond equally. Black and darker pigments often respond well, while some greens, blues, yellows, whites, flesh tones and mixed pigments can be more difficult or unpredictable.
Your tattoo will be assessed before treatment begins.
How long should I wait between sessions?
Treatment spacing varies according to the area, your healing response and the progress of the tattoo. Adequate intervals are essential because fading continues after the skin surface appears to have healed.
Your next appointment will be recommended according to your individual response rather than an unnecessarily short timetable.
Can I treat a recently completed tattoo?
A new tattoo must be completely healed before laser removal can be considered. The appropriate waiting period will be discussed during consultation.
Can I have treatment if I am tanned?
Laser treatment should not be carried out over actively tanned or sunburnt skin. Sun exposure and artificial tanning can increase the risk of pigmentation changes and other adverse reactions.
You will be given guidance on avoiding sun exposure before and after treatment.
Whether you are hoping to remove an unwanted tattoo completely, create space for a new design or simply explore what may be possible, the first step is a professional consultation.
You will receive straightforward advice, realistic expectations and a treatment plan based on your tattoo, your skin and your individual goals.
