Permanent lip make-up can be adapted to create different levels of enhancement.
Soft Lip Blush
A delicate wash of colour designed to make the lips appear fresher, more even and naturally tinted. Gives gentle subtle vermillion border definition
Ombre Lip Tint
A slightly more noticeable enhancement that gives the lips a polished appearance while remaining soft and wearable. Gives a soft but more definite vermillion border
Defined Lip Colour
A more structured result with additional definition around the lip border and a stronger concentration of colour.
The most suitable finish will depend on your natural lips, your colouring and the result you would like to achieve. Gives the most clearly defined vermillion border and full lip colour
What permanent lip make-up can and cannot do
Permanent make-up can improve the appearance of colour, definition and visual balance. However, it cannot physically enlarge the lips or change their underlying anatomy.
Careful design may create the appearance of greater symmetry or a more clearly defined border, but the treatment must remain within the natural structure of the lips.
My approach is always to create results that are flattering, realistic and appropriate for your features.
Lip colour neutralisation
Some lips naturally contain cooler, darker or uneven tones.
In selected cases, colour neutralisation techniques may be used to gradually create a warmer and more balanced appearance before the final desired shade can be achieved.
Neutralisation is often a process rather than a single treatment. It may require additional sessions and the final outcome will depend on your natural lip tone, skin characteristics, healing response and pigment retention.
A consultation is essential to determine whether neutralisation is suitable for you and to set realistic expectations.

Your consultation is one of the most important stages of your treatment.
It gives us the opportunity to explore what you would like to achieve and allows me to assess your natural lips, colouring, skin characteristics and suitability for permanent make-up.

What Happens at Your Lip Appointment?
1. Consultation and Colour Selection
We will revisit your desired result and select a pigment blend designed to complement your natural colouring.
2. Lip Mapping
Your natural lip border will be carefully assessed and mapped. Any subtle balancing will be carried out within the natural lip structure.
3. Treatment
Pigment is gradually implanted throughout the lips to build an even and controlled result.
4. Aftercare
You will receive clear aftercare guidance to support comfortable healing and pigment retention.
5. Refinement Appointment
Once the lips have fully healed, the result will be assessed and any necessary refinements can be made.
The Healing Process
Immediately following treatment, the lips will usually appear brighter, stronger and more defined than the finished result.
Some swelling and tenderness can be expected, particularly during the first day or two.
As the lips heal, the colour will soften considerably. They may feel dry or lightly flake, and the colour can temporarily appear faint or uneven before gradually returning.
The final healed result cannot be accurately assessed immediately after treatment. Lip tissue can take several weeks to settle, and patience during the healing process is essential.
You will receive full aftercare instructions before leaving the clinic.
How Many Appointments Will I Need?
Permanent lip make-up is normally completed over two appointments.
The first appointment establishes the shape and initial colour. The refinement appointment allows us to assess how the pigment has healed and make any necessary adjustments.
Some clients may require additional sessions, particularly where:

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my lips look like lipstick?
Not necessarily. Permanent lip make-up can be created as a very soft blush or as a more noticeable tint. Your preferred finish will be discussed during your consultation.
Can permanent make-up make my lips look bigger?
It cannot physically enlarge the lips. Careful colour placement and definition may make them appear more balanced or clearly defined, but treatment must remain within the natural lip structure.
Will the colour look very bright at first?
Yes. Freshly treated lips normally appear much brighter and stronger than the final healed result. The colour will soften significantly during healing.
Can I choose my colour?
Your preferences are important, but the final pigment choice must also take your natural lip colour, skin tone and undertone into account.
Can dark lips be treated?
Some darker or cooler lips may be suitable for colour neutralisation. This requires specialist assessment and may involve several treatment stages.
How long will my lips take to heal?
The visible surface healing usually takes place during the first week, but the colour continues to settle beneath the skin for several weeks.
Can I wear lipstick afterwards?
Once your lips have completed the initial healing stage, you can return to wearing your usual lip products. You will be given specific guidance following your treatment.
What if I have had lip filler?
Permanent lip make-up may still be possible, but suitable spacing between treatments will be required. Please disclose any previous or planned filler during your consultation.
Previous Lip Permanent Make-up
If you already have lip tattooing, the existing pigment must be assessed before a new treatment can be planned.
Faded work may sometimes be refreshed or adjusted, while heavily saturated, uneven or unsuitable pigment may require a different approach.

How Long Does PMU Lip Colour Last?
Permanent make-up gradually fades over time.
Longevity varies depending on your skin, lifestyle, sun exposure, skincare products, health, pigment choice and individual healing response.
A colour refresh may be recommended periodically to maintain the definition and tone of your lips.
Permanent make-up should be viewed as low maintenance rather than no maintenance.
Cold Sores and Lip Treatments
Lip tattooing can trigger a cold sore outbreak in anyone who carries the herpes simplex virus, even if outbreaks are infrequent or have not occurred for many years.
It is important to disclose any history of cold sores during your consultation.
You may be advised to speak with your pharmacist or GP before treatment regarding appropriate preventative medication. Treatment should not be carried out while an active cold sore or lesion is present.
